On New Year's eve while everyone were dancing, partying and making merry, someone out there weeps, mourns and wished.
Driven by the spirit of celebration, I decided to go to the beach (Bar Beach) to feel the warm atmophere, you know have fun.
There and then, I walked up to a young boy aged fourteen who sat alone at the beach and was weeping. I could not help but I was touched, then walked up to him with the intention to cheer him up.
Being the me that I am, I asked him, young boy, what is your name? He cried and said, Ma, I do not have a name because I do not know who I am and the beach has been my home since I was 6 years old.
With a remorseful heart, I asked him again, young boy, don't you have friends, what do they call you? He replied, I am called Daniel.
Young Daniel lived apart from his parents since 2002 and ever since he caters for himself by doing odd jobs for the quest of surviving.
When asked to come have fun with me, he expressed himself to me in these words, "Fun, I have known no fun since I was 6, I have been on my own struggling while my mates are in school, I roam around the streets of Lagos begging for money just to eat. Tell me, is that fun? He continued while crying louder, seeing different people at the beach today makes me happy and sad. I do not have a name, no home, no mother nor father, nor siblings, nor relatives in this big wide world am alone. All I can do is to wish and hope it comes to past."
He called me Anty then said, can you help make my wishes come to past? Before I could give him a reply he began with his wishes, "I wish I had food always to eat, I wish I have a home and a family to call my own. Anty I want to go to school, you see I dream of becoming a pastor (he stammers) because I want to win souls and help God."
Young Daniel has faith, courage and a strong heart for a boy of that age. He ended his wishes saying,"come 2015, I wish I could smile everyday"
